5 Morning Rituals to Start the Day Right

5 Morning Rituals

The way we wake up each morning really does set the tone for how we feel.

If we wake up stressed and irritable then chances are we will continue to be stressed and irritable throughout the day.

In order to try and start the day right I have been implementing these 5 morning rituals over the past few months to get my day started RIGHT

1. DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR PHONE

I'll admit it this one is the hardest for me to stick to! It's like I go on autopilot and it takes a lot of commitment to not pick up my phone and check my social media.

When we scroll through our social media, check our emails and to-do lists for the day this is detrimental as it tricks our brain into actually not being able to prioritise tasks (crazy huh?) and can negatively impact your mental health & stress levels.

As a rule I try to only check my social media once I have completed all of my morning routine. Put your phone DOWN & don't worry about FOMO! Whatever you may have missed out on whilst you were sleeping will still be there once you have completed your morning rituals.

2. MEDITATION

Meditation is something I have been doing daily for well over a year as well as practising mindfulness.

Morning meditation has many benefits as it allows you to start the day on a positive note making you more focused, energetic and calm so that you are ready to tackle whatever may come your way that day.

Meditation in the morning doesn't have to be time consuming or difficult. Spend 5-10 minutes listening to calming music (my favourite meditation music is via the Insight Timer app) whilst practising being one with yourself, clear your mind of intrusive thoughts and deep breathing. This will help you relax and centre yourself ready to face the day.

3. DRINK A GLASS OF WATER

I'll be honest here. Drinking water is not one of my favourite things to do and I do admittedly fall off the bandwagon continuously however I do definitely feel the benefits when I get enough H2O in my system daily.

Our adult bodies are made up of up to 60% water so hydration is key! Drinking water first thing in the morning rehydrates our body, flushes out our stomachs to help our lymphatic system and helps our mental health and clarity.

I like to try and fill up my cup and drink my first glass of water first thing in the morning before my brain realises exactly what I am doing (lol!).

4, PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Gratitude is being thankful for all the blessings that we have in our lives. To practice gratitude allows us to be more positive and happy as we are actively recognising what we are grateful for each day so it is at the forefront of our minds.

In a notebook that you keep by your bed write down 3-5 things everyday that you are grateful for. This could be something as simple as being grateful for the piping hot coffee you get to wake up to each day or something a little more personal to you.

Note down what you are grateful for.

5. BREATHE

In the words of Ariana "just keep breathin; and breathin; and breathin'"  but seriously deep breathing works wonders!

Breathing can assist with anxiety and depression and in decreasing our stress levels. Our mental clarity & mental concentration ability also sees a big improvement when we practise breathing exercises. By carrying this out first thing in the morning we are setting a relaxed and stress-free tone to our day.

There is something extremely relaxing about carrying out deep breathing exercise's so practice it everyday to see positive changes in your mindset.

5 Morning Rituals

Carry out these rituals one by one until it becomes routine. Once you are consistent with one ritual try another and then another and so fourth until you have worked out which of these works best for you. This could be one to keep in your routine, or all 5, whatever works best for YOU!

Try these for the next 7 days and see if you feel any positive changes! Let me know in the comments below
